ECHO Autism
The ECHO Autism project uses secure video conferencing to connect primary care providers to a team of specialists at an academic medical centre. During weekly ECHO Clinics, specialists provide education in best-practice treatment protocols, case-based learning, and co-management.
The pilot project included development and implementation of a 6-month ECHO Autism curriculum, consisting of 2-hour clinics occurring twice per month, with a specific focus on training PCPs in screening and identification of ASD symptoms and management of common medical and psychiatric comorbidities.
The original Projects ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) was eveloped at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center as a mechanism to improve outcomes for individuals with hepatitis C virus infection living in underserved areas.
