Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model
The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model is a form of supported employment.
IPS was orignially developed to help people with mental health problems obtain competitve employment.
IPS is based around eight key principles
- Every person who wants to work is eligible
- Competitive jobs are the goal
- IPS supported employment services are integrated with mental health
- Personalised benefits counselling is provided
- The job search starts soon after a person expresses interest in working
- Employment specialists build relationships with employers
- Individualised job supports are time-unlimited
- Individual preferences are honoured
IPS was developed by the Dartmouth IPS Supported Employment Center in the USA.
