Neurotensin

Neurotensin is a hormone which modulates motility, relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter, and blocks the stimulation of acid and pepsin secretion by the vagus nerve.

Some researchers have suggested that neurotensin may accentuate the hyperglutaminergic state in autism, leading to apoptosis (cell death).

They suggest that targetting neuroensin i.e. trying to decrease its effects may benefit some indiviudals with autism.
