Australian Scale for Asperger's Syndrome (ASAS)

The Australian Scale for Asperger's Syndrome (ASAS) is  a screening tool designed to identify children who may have Asperger syndrome.

The ASAS scale is designed to be completed by parents, teachers, or other professionals who know the child.

The scale consists of 24 questions, each of which can be answered with an answer graded from 0 to 6.

For example, question 1 asks: 'Does the child lack an understanding of how to play with other children? For example, is the child unaware of the unwritten rules of social play.'

The score identifies individuals who may have Asperger syndrome and who should be referred for a more complete evaluation.

The ASAS was developed by Garnett and Attwood.
