Functional Analysis

A functional analysis is a process designed to provoke a behaviour in order to test theories about why the behaviour is happening.

The person conducting the analysis may alter what happens to the individual before and/or after the behaviour to see if and how this affects the individual’s behaviour.

A functional analysis may be carried out as part of a wider functional assessment of someone's behaviour.
