Diagnostic Tools
Diagnostic tools are instruments used to identify a condition, syndrome or disorder (such as autistic disorder or Asperger syndrome).
There are a number of tools which are used to diagnose individuals who might have an autism spectrum disorder. However, no single tool should be used as the only basis for the diagnosis.
Diagnostic tools usually rely on two main sources of information (descriptions of the individual's development and behaviour and direct observation of that behaviour).
Specific autism diagnostic tools include those listed below but there are many others.
- The Autism Diagnosis Interview-Revised (ADI-R)
