Sensory Integrative Therapy and Autism Ranking: Insufficient/Mixed evidence

Ongoing Research

We have identified the following studies into sensory integrative therapy that are currently underway.  If you know of any other studies we should include please email info@researchautism.net with the details.

  • The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Inc. is running a trial to test the efficacy of Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT), a non-invasive intervention to improve functional skills in children with ASD, in comparison to commonly applied ABA behavioral treatments, in the treatment of ASD symptoms. Clinical Trials Gov Ref: NCT02536365. For more details, please see Sensory Integration Therapy in Autism: Mechanisms and Effectiveness
  • The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is running a trial to find out whether SIT improves the child’s behaviour socialisation and daily functioning more than the treatment normally offered to families (usual care). ISRCTN registry ref: ISRCTN14716440. For more details please see A trial of sensory integration therapy versus usual care for sensory processing difficulties in autism spectrum disorder in children
  • The University of Western Sydney is running a trial to investigate the effect of sensory integration (SI) and self-regulated learning versus an activity-based control programme in reducing behavioural problems in children with ASD that interfere with their daily livings, school, and social engagement. Clinical Trials Gov Ref: NCT02496819. For more details, please see Metacognitive Self-regulated Learning and Sensory Integrative Approaches for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders
